Lighthouse: the impact of a story

Bruce & Teri Harnell

Lighthouse Founders

For more than 25 years, we have walked alongside children, young people, and their families. Throughout this journey, we have helped create spaces where people feel seen, heard, and valued for all that they are — and all they hope to become.

Each of us is given one life to live and to steward well. While our history, character, and experiences shape who we are, the example we model each day as Lighthouse KEEPERS — the adult supporters of children and young people — truly matters.

A KEEPER’s reflection lights the way for tamariki, shaping their beliefs, influencing their present, and impacting their future. When challenges arise and additional support is needed, what we choose to focus on matters. Our focus reflects not only the heart of our intention, the beliefs that underpin our strategies, and how well we have listened, but the meaning we have made together and the supports we build in response.

“Nothing about us, without us.”

Here, we honour your story — your uniqueness, your lived experience, and the relationships that matter to you. Challenges come for us all, so at the heart of our Lighthouse approach is a simple truth: we reflect hope — a light on your path that helps you navigate, grow in insight, and move forward with purpose in ways that are meaningful to you.

You are uniquely designed, built with potential, and created for a purpose.

Come journey with us —
Dare to Dream. Choose to SHINE.

Vision

Building environments where learning, wellbeing, and leadership flourish through supportive relationships, intentional reflection, and hope-filled direction.

Mission

We partner with parents, carers and community professionals, providing therapeutic education, training, and resources that empower and equip young people to lead themselves well, unlock their potential, rise through challenge, and thrive as the purpose-driven leaders they were created to be.

Values

The following values create a strong foundation for all that we do and are encompassed by the core value of Wairuatanga, recognising the importance of spirituality and connectedness in all that we do here at Lighthouse Leaders.

Friends of Lighthouse

With experience spanning the Youth Development, Professional, and Social Service sectors, this incredible group of people generously share their wisdom, insight, and encouragement as Lighthouse Leaders continues to grow.

They are our Lighthouse trailblazers — an important part of our story. Their unique talents, strengths, and experience help our Lighthouse kaupapa truly SHINE.

Our Advisory Team

We’re so grateful for the many incredible people who generously share their talents, strengths, and experience with us. Lighthouse Leaders is built for community, by community, and our friends continually bring their specialised skills and fresh perspectives to help us strengthen our work, deliver meaningful outcomes, and continue evolving all that we can offer.

If our vision resonates with you and you share a heart for supporting children, young people, and whānau to recognise their strengths and potential, we would love to connect.

Together, we can continue building spaces where stories are honoured, hope is nurtured, and every light has the opportunity to SHINE.
